We have multiple employment programs for those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. These programs are unique in that we focus on the talents and strengths of the individual first, then work as a team to find work that is of appropriately challenging, rewarding and fair in compensation.
The world has changed substantially since The Arc was incorporated; the work world even more so. Our talented Customized Employment job coaches work to determine the unique strengths, needs, and interests of the job candidate with a disability and then match that to the identified business needs of the employer.
Our specialized employment model allows us to tap into local business needs and is of mutual benefit to employer and employee. Using a person-centered plan, the needs of the individual are met and the business’ needs are fulfilled.
The Arc and partners have created the MicroEnterprise program to support people who operate outside of The Arc’s other programs. By tailoring the job to the abilities of the individual, The Arc has opened the door to business ownership for the individuals we serve.
The over-arching goal of Project SEARCH* is to increase sustainable employment and self-sufficiency of those we support. This program is a unique, one year school-to-work internship that is taught entirely at the workplace. All classroom instruction, career exploration and hands-on training is accomplished through work site rotations, allowing interns to master many different skills at one work site.
The interns rotate through three, ten week internships over the course of one school year. These business-led internships are developed to provide marketable, transferable skills leading to gainful and meaningful employment.
