Anne Arundel County Life Transition Series

2021-2022

The Life Transition Series, sponsored by The Arc and the Anne Arundel County Public School System (AACPS), is comprised of workshops designed to provide families of students with disabilities who are transitioning from school with valuable information and resources to facilitate a successful transition. Each session will focus on a specific topic and provide information that is crucial for preparing to enter adult life. Dates and topics will be released soon for the 2021-22 school year. This series will also be virtual.

Transition Planning

September 2020

The transition from high school to adulthood is a critical stage for individuals with developmental disabilities and requires extra planning and goal setting. Join us in a discussion to learn more about Transition Planning and the role of the Transition Facilitator.

Coordinators of Community Service 

November 2020

Coordinators of Community Service play a critical role in assisting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities with making choices affecting their lives and accessing resources and services in their community. These coordinators assist individuals who are eligible for services from the Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) by acting as the liaison between the family, provider agencies, and DDA.

Self Directed Services

January 2020

This is a service delivery model for individuals with developmental disabilities who wish to exercise more choice, control, and authority over their supports when they leave the school system. Self-direction gives DDA-eligible individuals and families greater control over the services they receive, how they receive them, and who provides them. Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS)

February 2021

The Maryland Division of Rehabilitation Services (DORS) has programs and services that help individuals with disabilities go to work in careers of their choice. DORS provides services to high school students with disabilities who are making the transition from school to employment, higher education or vocational training. If eligible, the individual will work with a DORS counselor to choose from a variety of programs and services. Join us in learning about DORS services, including Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS).

Supplemental Security Income (SSI)

Alternatives to Guardianship

Should I have a guardian?  This is a question that often arises for persons with developmental disabilities. Truths and myths of guardianship will be discussed.
