Self-advocacy is when people with intellectual and developmental disabilities represent themselves, their ideas, and their own best interests to advocate for changes in their lives and their communities. Launched in 2022, Living Boldly is The Arc’s self-advocacy group. This is a public group open to anyone with an intellectual or developmental disability – you do not have to receive services from The Arc to join and participate. The Arc supports nine counties throughout Maryland, and every community in the region we serve has unique challenges and opportunities for its residents. Reflecting those diverse needs, Living Boldly offers two chapters, each serving the needs of their communities. While each chapter has its own leadership and meeting schedules, they have the same mission: to ensure that people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are fully included, that we speak and make our voices heard on important issues, help each other grow, and encourage more independence.
