Give To the Family Fund
Child-centered services can transform the lives of children and families. At The Arc Central Chesapeake Region, we prioritize supporting the children, youth, and families who experience the most need, removing the barriers families face in supporting their children.
Thousands of children in our community rely on very specialized, costly support but cannot access these resources because their families cannot afford them. Every day, these families must make the difficult choice of balancing their child’s needs with their family’s financial well-being.
For kids with disabilities in your community, the Family Fund is one of the only resources they can turn to because the Family Fund helps parents pay for things insurance won’t cover. All kids deserve access to the resources they need, and your support of the Family Fund creates greater equity for kids with disabilities in your community.
Critical therapies, educational resources, specialized equipment, and opportunities to engage and connect in the community – we can’t change how much these vital services cost – but you can change how many kids can access them with a donation to the Family Fund today.
The Family Fund is 100% funded by generous donors throughout the community who understand that families don’t always have the financial means to access the resources they need the most. With your help, the Family Fund can support more children and families than ever before.
Your Gift Can Make A Difference For Kids Like Mikey
Mikey is a lively 11-year-old who loves sports, his brother, and life itself. While he loves to run, play, and explore the world around him, he can’t always do it on his own.
Mikey has weak muscle tone and difficulty with depth perception. While he can walk short distances by himself, simple tasks like going up or down the stairs or stepping off the street curb take on a whole new meaning.
“I never thought about all the things we took for granted until we couldn’t do any of them as a family. Think about how many stairs there are in the world and all the things you can’t do if you can’t use them.” – Amy (Mikey’s mother)
Mikey needs specialized physical therapy to build stronger leg muscles so he can navigate stairs at home, at school, and out in the community on his own and with confidence. The therapy sessions that will help him build the strength he needs are $160 for 60 minutes at least once per week – much more than his mom can afford.
Parents like Amy turn to the Family Fund for help because the Family Fund helps parents pay for resources not covered by insurance. For many kids, the therapies and other resources are not nice to have – they are must-haves.
“There are some exercises he could do at home, but that doesn’t replace the need for a therapist who can work with him one-on-one. Without it, Mikey would have to rely on other people to support him with stairs and curbs when what he really wanted was to be more independent. Not being able to provide that resource for my son was killing me.” – Amy.
We need your help to support kids like Mikey. Every dollar given to the Family Fund directly benefits a child in your local community. The more we raise, the more children and families we can support.
