Part-time Community Support Assistant (Direct Support Professional)

Description

The Arc Central Chesapeake Region (The Arc) supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live the lives they choose. Everyone has unique needs, so at The Arc, there’s no one-size-fits-all approach for the people we support or for our employees. We believe in work-life balance, especially on the weekends, and are innovators in our field for valuing individuality, accessibility, and flexibility for weekend employees who want to pick up a few short shifts, or a few longer shifts, whatever the weekend may bring.

We are a nonprofit with an action-oriented, heart-driven culture that centers people, community, and opportunity in everything we do. As a Community Support Assistant working part-time, you will be a Direct Support Professional (DSP) who actively supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in maximizing their independence, self-advocacy, and decision-making in their community and at home. This is not a caregiver position, but an opportunity for support, partnership, and equity-building. While caregivers may monitor and serve, our Community Support Assistants are passionate supporters who are engaging, creative, and motivated as they support a person’s life choices and facilitate opportunities to build relationships.

As a Community Support Assistant, you will report to a Community Living Program Manager and be responsible for supporting one to four people living in one of The Arc’s group homes located in a suburban or rural community in Anne Arundel County. You will have an essential role ensuring the people we support are progressing according to their Person-Centered Plans, providing personal care and emotional support as needed, and assisting with meal preparation and daily living activities such as cleaning, laundry, and administering medication. Ensuring safety regulations are being met, completing daily logs and progress notes, providing transportation, and engaging people in meaningful activities is all in a day’s work for a trusted Community Support Assistant. Your creativity, high level of energy, and passion for the mission of The Arc will help you and the people you support thrive every weekend.

Qualifications

This position requires a high school diploma or GED, though at least one year of experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is preferred. Candidates must also possess a valid Driver’s license with no egregious records and complete all required Arc and Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) trainings, becoming trained as a Certified Medication Technician if you are going to administer medication. This position includes paid professional development and continued education.
