Leave your Legacy

June 19, 2024

When you donate today you play a crucial role in supporting The Arc Central Chesapeake Regions work in the community now. But what if you want to make a gift that will impact your community for years and decades to come and leave a lasting legacy?

Making a planned gift is a simple and accessible way to make a lasting impact on both your community and The Arc. Whether that’s through a bequest or by designating The Arc as a remainder beneficiary, you have the power to shape the future of your community. When you leave a gift to The Arc through your estate, you become part of our Hake Society.

We hope you’ll be inspired by the real stories of three transformational gifts from members of the Hake Society. See how your gift could make a similar, lasting impact on our community.

The Hake Trust

The Hake family helped bring The Arc’s Severn campus to life by designating The Arc as the remainder beneficiary of their son’s Special Needs Trust. They generously left $800,000 to support The Arc’s future growth. This gift allowed The Arc to invest in the physical space we needed as we grew to meet the needs of the community.

Linda & Brad Ferrier

After their son was diagnosed with autism, Linda and Brad Ferrier built a system of support for their family and then used their knowledge and experience to help others do the same. Linda and Brad were also planners and left The Arc a bequest in their will and a gift through their IRA, totaling $219,000.
Their gift allowed The Arc to create the first Community Hub in Anne Arundel County, a place to gather and recharge, providing the fully accessible resources people with a disability need to be active daily in their community. Linda and Brad designated a portion of their gift to support the continuing education of Direct Support Professionals, acknowledging the support they received for their son and the critical role that they play in empowering people with disabilities to be as independent as possible.

Nancy Bauer

Nancy Bauer helped bring clarity and resources to countless families by designating The Arc as a remainder beneficiary of her life insurance policy. With her $18,000 bequest, The Arc was able to respond to a genuine need in the community – supporting parents to advocate for their school-aged children, ensuring that kids have a strong foundation of support early in their lives.
Nancy’s legacy is Project Learn, a program that educates parents on the complex resources available through the school system, and Project Leadership Learn Academy, which empowers middle and high school students to take ownership of their services.
